Tillyschanze is a commemorative observation tower with a crenelated roof, built between 1881 to 1885, to remember the defiant stance of the citizens of Hann. Münden during the siege of the town by the Count of Tilly in 1626.
The Welfenschloss (Palace of the Guelph family) was constructed between 1562 and 1584 in the Weser Renaissance style to replace the previous palace that had been built by Duke Eric I in 1501 and destroyed by fire in 1560. The interior of the palace is open to guided public tours. Also in the palace is the Städtisches Museum which houses an impressive porcelain collection, locally produced from 1753 to 1854 by the Mündener Fayence-Manufaktur, as well as exhibits centered around the history of the town.
The Alte Werrabrücke (Old Wera Bridge) is another of Hann. Münden's landmarks. Built in roughly 1250, it is one of northern Germany's oldest stone bridges and still in regular, daily use. In fact, the Sydekumstraße, lined with lovely old buildings and ornate entrances, leads from the bridge to the palace, Welfenschloss.
