As the cold temperature and bad weather begin to take Northern Nevada by storm the Sierra Safari Zoo must close admission gates and rely on the generosity of the community for all operating costs. Every winter Northern Nevadans have to put away their flip-flops, dust off the old snow tires, and prepare for the cold and unpredictable winter. The animals at Sierra Safari Zoo are no exception to the winter routine: the monkey’s come into their heated environment, the birds retire to the comfort of an indoor habitat and the alligator goes to her heated indoor pond. The zoo must close its doors to the public and prepare for a winter filled with sub-zero temperatures, unpredictable winds, and unknown financial support. The Sierra Safari Zoo needs the support of the entire community to make it through the winter to come.
