Located in the Palawai Basin, more or less in the center of the island; reached by way of Manele Rd. (440) south from Lanai City, approximately 1½ miles (just past mile marker 7), then left—southeast—on Hoike Rd., an unmarked dirt road, another mile or so, and off on a dirt trail (which goes off Hoike Rd.), northward, roughly three quarters of a mile, to the petroglyphs. The Luahiwa Petroglyphs are among the best preserved petroglyphs in the islands, quite possibly dating from the late 1700s and early 1800s, and featuring symbols and stick figures representing humans, animals and birds.
