On the outskirts of Henderson, as you go over the hump in the mountains toward gaming-free Boulder City, there's one last chance for some Vegas-style action before leaving the Las Vegas Valley: the Railroad Pass Hotel and Casino. It's been the last stop since 1931, when it was built to earn back some wages from workers building Hoover Dam (then called Boulder Dam) in the early 1930s. Today Railroad Pass is much more than a pit stop, with more than 100 hotel rooms (including 20 suites), over 12,500 square feet of gaming featuring 368 slots, seven table games, a keno area and sports book, and dining options whose bargain prices attract locals and passersby alike. The Box Car Buffet is open for all three meals, but Friday night is the big deal with a seafood spread. For 24-hour cooked-to-order service, there's the Iron Rail Café. For a relaxed night out, the Conductor's Room has more upscale offerings, such as steak. There's also a banquet room that can cater to 125 people. The service throughout the Railroad Pass is friendly, the place is well-maintained and the limits are low ($2 blackjack), which is why people keep coming back after all these years.
