While MTV's "Real World" helped make famous the Palms, located a few blocks west of the Las Vegas Strip, the striking Modernist tower's true claim to fame is being in touch with the surreal world of celebrity. Owner George Maloof Jr., who has become a celebrity himself since the resort opened in 2001, has attracted a who's-who list from the entertainment and sports worlds with a variety of amenities and touches that score heavily on the hip scale - from a tattoo parlor to bachelor suites replete with dancer poles. And the Palms Fantasy Tower takes the concept of celebrity-inspired, exhibitionist decadence to new heights with eight Fantasy Suites - including the Hardwood Suite with its own basketball half-court - as well as the first operating Playboy Club in more than 20 years. The excitement starts at the top with Ghostbar, a nightclub on the 55th floor that features an open-air deck and see-through dance floor. Along with the Palms' 1,500-seat Rain Las Vegas, this is the place that helped usher in the 21st-century Vegas nightclub era. Meanwhile, the Moon Nightclub sits atop the Palms' Fantasy Tower, and features a retractable roof and spectacular views of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. Celebrities also flock to the resort's fine-dining establishments: Little Buddha, offering Asian-French fusion cuisine and a fresh sushi bar; N9NE, the Vegas version of the Chicago-based steakhouse; Alize, featuring local restaurateur Andre Rochat's gourmet French cuisine, the West's largest cognac collection and breathtaking views of the Las Vegas Strip; and Nove Italiano, an upscale, contemporary Italian dining room that combines high design and a high-energy atmosphere with superb cuisine. On the more casual side, Garduno's serves up Mexican specialties and a variety of margaritas; the Blue Agave has oyster and chile bars; the 24 Seven Cafe is the place for sandwiches, salads and breakfasts; and for parties with diverse interests, there's the Bistro Buffet and a food court. Between meals, you can hit the slots or tables in the 100,000-square-foot casino, which also features a classic poker room, keno lounge, two high-limit areas and a sports book. If it's hot and sunny, check out the sensuous Skin pool lounge, featuring intimate, multihued relaxation pools and a bar; if it's not, you can always see a movie in the 14-screen theater (including one IMAX screen) or your future, courtesy of the resident tarot card reader. The Palms also offers a number of health and beauty services, including a fitness center, the AMP salon operated by renowned stylist Michael Boychuk and the three-story, full-service Spa at the Palms. The toughest part about getting there on time is leaving your room. The resort offers three types of rooms - deluxe, junior suites and grand suites - all of which come with panoramic views, high-speed Internet access and comfy beds fitted with Egyptian cotton linens. If those accommodations are not special - or big - enough, the Palms offers the aforementioned bachelor suites for an Austin Powers-style good time, NBA-sized suites with special fixtures and furnishings for the vertically blessed (the Maloof family owns the Sacramento Kings), and, of course, the popular Real World Suite.
