Even if you can’t quite justify spending upwards of i600 on a room for one night, a visit to Venice’s enchanting Hotel Danieli is obligatory, if only to catch a glimpse of the glorious entrance hall. For good reason this hotel has long been considered to be one of Venice’s most enchanting sleeps and it rates high on my list for its elegance and value (relatively speaking of course). The golden-arcaded staircase is the focal point of the opulent entrance foyer and only hints at the Danieli’s luxurious accommodations and its rich history. It was here that illustrious guests like Proust, Dickens, Wagner and Ruskin stayed in one of the city’s most romantic ambiances. This one-time palatial residence of Doge Dandolo has an aristocratic air about it, from its Murano chandeliers and damasks to its sumptuous banquet rooms and grand views of the lagoon.
