Villa Foscari “La Malcontenta"

As the story goes, Villa Foscari, dubbed La Malcontenta (The Unhappy), derived its name from a noblewoman who was once confined here as punishment for her restless nature. Considered by many to be among Palladio’s finest country works, La Malcontenta was built for Nicolò and Alvise Foscari and later frescoed by Giambattista Zelotti and Battista Franco. The villa still belongs to descendents of the original owners and its grounds and piano nobile are open to the public.
