It’s best to loop back to Piazza Grande by following Via Fuori le Mura around the exterior of the walls past the Chiesa di San Francesco, in through the gates to the Oratorio di San Francesco and on to the Oratorio di San Bernardino. It was built in 1450 to honor San Bernardino of Siena and they certainly went to a lot of trouble; the polychrome façade is covered with a vibrant mix of terracotta, limestone and white, black and red marble, and the central arch, decorated with bas-reliefs depicting the saint’s miracles, is by far the most important pre-Renaissance monument in Perugia.
