The final stop on the right bank is Marsciano, the castle remains of an old fiefdom that once controlled the fertile hinterland of vine, olive, wheat and sunflower fields, surrounded by holm-oak woods and occasional stretches of scrub. The valley of River Fersinone is your best bet for nature walks; the softly-flowing brook is overlooked by picturesque hilltop villages such as Morcella, Monte Vibiano and Migliano. Bicycles can be rented from Saccarelli Lucio. But before you head into the wilderness, take some time to visit near Cerqueto, where the village parish church preserves a fresco of St Sebastian (around 1478), which is considered to be the first work of Perugino.
