The first important town you’ll meet along the SS325 is Vaiano. It took its current form in the Middle Ages when it grew up around the 11th-century Benedictine Badia di San Salvatore, at left, which – announced by its green and white marble fortified campanile – still marks the center of town. There’s a small collection of little interest in its adjacent Museo di Arte Sacra.
