Within two blocks of the Déli train station are numerous popular restaurants and gyors büfés (fast buffets). One on the park side is in a renovated train diner, The Orient Express,open 11 am-1 am daily. It is across from the Déli “bullring,” so-called because it is a metro entrance below street level that is surrounded by a circular railing above. The Orient Express can be easily distinguished because it is the only structure on the parkside, an aging green diner train car, sitting on the streetside border of Vérmezõ park.
Someone told me this once a part of the Orient Express, but, I am not sure if this is true. Looking as though it could hardly hold a couple, let alone a full complement of customers, inside it is fairly roomy and it is often filled with local people. The Victorian décor is faded and or gone, and its wood-trimmed tables are clearly replacements of the originals.
But the service is good and the specialty is lighter Hungarian fare, soups, basic grilled meats, salads, and lighter drinks. A wooden terrace is tucked away in the back, overlooking the park. The food is good and great value.
