St Andreaskirche (St Andrew’s Church), a 14th-century Gothic church, is situated just south of the Marktplatz. The church was destroyed in 1945 but reconstructed soon after. The interior is rather bare but it has one of the largest organs in Northern Germany. The 114.35-m (378-foot) tower is the highest church tower in Lower Saxony. A viewing platform at 75 m (246 feet) can be reached via 364 steps. The view is worth the effort.

Opening hours are from April to September on weekdays, 9 am to 6 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm, and Sunday from 11:30 am to 4 pm. From October to March, opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunday, 11:30 am to 4 pm. During the summer the tower is only open from 11 am to 4 pm.
