The CAF refuges encountered along this walk are inexpensive to stay in. You can make half-board arrangements, including continental breakfast and a four-course evening meal soup, main course, cheese and dessert for about euro 32 per person, less for CAF members.
Places in the refuges are limited, so whether you want to stay the night, or simply stop for refreshments, you must book in advance. In the Refuge CAF des Merveilles, there are 20 places in winter and 75 in the summer. The Refuge de Valmasque where you can stop for food on this itinerary has 54 places in the summer, 12 in winter.
To make a reservation, contact the refuge guardian at least three weeks before your visit. To stay at the Refuge CAF des Merveilles between June 15 and September 26, write to: Alex Ferrier Refuge des Merveilles, 06430 Tende, France, indicating dates, number of people and whether you want to have a meal or stay with half-board. Enclose a self-addressed envelope and a money order for euro 8 per person. If you are writing from outside of France, add a few extra euros for postage and indicate this in your letter. The deposit will be returned if no places are available. Between October 2 and the beginning of June, you can visit the Refuge by reservation through Jochen Boggero.
