Milly-la-Forêt is historically associated with medicinal herb cultivation, drawing visitors from around the world for its annual Marché de l’Herboriste the last week in May. Garden center addicts can get their fix at the town’s own national plant conservatory. Continue past the chapel along the Route de Nemours, and look for signs on the right pointing to the Conservatoire National des Plantes.
where over 200,000 types of aromatic and medicinal plants and herbs are grown on five acres. It has a 19th-century drying room, a collection of antique garden tools, and a greenhouse full of exotic plants. There’s also a plant shop and picnic tables set up in the garden.
