The Château de Chantilly is actually made up of two conjoined châteaux, the 15th-century Petit Château and the 19th-century Grand Château. They house the Musée Condé, featuring the Duc d’Aumale’s beautifully decorated private apartments and internationally renowned collection of old master paintings and rare books. Museum Passes accepted. This ticket includes access to the Galeries de Peintures and an accompanied tour of the Grands Appartements and Chapelle. The Petits Appartements private housing quarters of the Duc d’Aumale can only be visited with a guide on weekends and holidays (approximately 30 minutes). Tickets cost Euro 6.50 (on top of the regular entrance fee). There’s an English brochure at the entry with map and brief descriptions of each room, and there are also plasticized information sheets in multiple languages in each room, but these are hard to find when the museum is crowded. Audio guides are available for Euro 2 at the boutique (next to the Capitainerie). Guidebooks in English can be purchased there for Euro 5-Euro 10. Be sure to ask at the main entrance when the free tour takes place (they last about 30 minutes). Allow at least 90 minutes to see the entire museum.
