Trapp Family Lodge offers 10 guest rooms,a restaurant, and TV lounge. If they ever find a human gene for geniality, they’ll find it in the Trapp family lineage. The young owner of this lodge is one of the warmest and friendliest hosts around – we really felt welcome here. Andrés Trapp Belmar grew up in Chile and came to Costa Rica to work as a guide in the rainforest. His grandmother was a Trapp from Austria, and hotels are in his blood – his uncle owns the Bavarian-like Belmar. The rooms are clean and appealing, with lots of polished tropical hardwoods. We’d like the rates to include breakfast, but that may come only with competition.

This is the closest lodge to the Cloud Forest entrance, although it’s still a fair hike. We would stay here again, and again.
