South Point Lighthouse is located at Atlantic Shores, the most southerly point of the island. It was the first lighthouse in Barbados, originally shown at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851, and then shipped to Barbados where it was reassembled in 1852. Made of cast iron and standing 89ft (30m) tall, it was restored in 2004, and is still operational. The lighthouse site is open to the public, but the lighthouse itself is closed.
