Galleria Palatina, housed in the Pitti’s noblest rooms and considered by many to be Florence’s most important art collection other than the Uffizi, displays many of the best works collected by the Medici and subsequent Lorraine dynasty. The gallery’s showpieces are works by 16th-century artists spread over six main rooms: Venus (with masterpieces by Titian and Rubens), Apollo (with works by Titian, Pietro da Cortona, Rosso Fiorentino and Andrea del Sarto), Mars (Raphael, Rubens, Pietro da Cortona), Jupiter (Pietro da Cortona, Verrocchio, Bellini, Raphael, Andrea del Sarto, Fra Bartolomeo), Saturn (Pietro da Cortona, Raphael, Perugino, Andrea del Sarto) and Illiad (Raphael and Andrea del Sarto).

Also of interest, annexed to the Gallerina Palatina are the royal apartments inhabited by King Vittore-Emmanuele for the short time when Florence was the capital of Italy between 1865 and 1871.

Galleria d’Arte Moderna (Gallery of Modern Art)

Just to prove Florentine art did continue after the Renaissance, the Galleria d’Arte Moderna conserves works from the 19th century on, especially those of the Macchiaioli (the Italian face of Impressionism).

Galleria del Costume (Gallery of Medicean Clothing)

The Galleria del Costume, to which your ticket also allows entrance, displays the funeral wear of Cosimo I and Elenora di Toledo.

Museo degli Argenti and Museo delle Porcellane

The collection of treasures accumulated by the Medici and their successors, including some fine jewels, ivory and crystals, are displayed in the fresco-covered rooms now home to the Museo degli Argenti. The Museo delle Porcellane – is worth your time only if you’re a fan of antique tableware; what is on display here was used by the inhabitants of the Palazzo Pitti from the Medici on.
