Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is an island country in the Caribbean, approximately where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. And it has two claims to fame: bananas, which are its mainstay, economically speaking; and the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean, which was filmed on location here.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is made up of the main island of Saint Vincent and the smaller island chain known as the Grenadines, which is in turn part of the Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles chain, strung out to the north of the island of Grenada, with St. Lucia to the north of there and Barbados to the east. It comprises all of 150 square miles (389 square kilometers) and a has a population of roughly 120,000, making it one of the most densely populated countries in the Caribbean.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines' capital, which is also its largest town and its main port, is Kingstown, located on the island of Saint Vincent. On the second-largest island, Bequia, is the second largest town, Port Elizabeth. Other populated islands in the chain include Mustique, a private island that has drawn a parade of celebrities over the years, and Canouan, Tobago Cays, Mayreau, Union Island, Palm Island, and Petit St. Vincent.
