Two blocks east from the bridge to Paradise Island, and no more than a short cab ride from Cable Beach, on E. Bay Street at the Nassau Yacht Haven. Popular with locals and visitors, this often-crowded restaurant offers a wide range of classic Bahamian food. A two-level deck has spectacular views of the harbor, Paradise Island Bridge, the marina, and Atlantis itself. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, there’s no air conditioning, so things can get a little warm, especially on a Saturday evening.
Smoking is permitted on the deck. Fresh – and I do mean fresh – seafood is cooked to order. The “whole hog” snapper melts in the mouth. One local diner described it as “five times better than anything else.” The fish is prepared whole and cooked slowly, which means it’s so tender it would fall off the bone if filleted in the traditional manner. Diners select their own fish or lobster, and size determines price. The small snapper (more than enough for most people) is $30.
Wine, especially champagne, is a little on the pricey side. You have to try the mango daiquiri. Dinner entrées range from $18 to $58. Lunch ranges from $5 to $21.
