Bimini
Just 50 miles off the east coast of Florida, Bimini is one of the best known of the Bahamas. It’s most popular with fishermen, and is within easy reach of amateur sailors from the American mainland. Bimini is actually two distinct islands separated by a narrow ocean passage and a number of minor cays. It has a total land mass of less than 10 square miles, a rich history and a wealth of natural resources.
Most of the community’s population, about 1,600, lives on North Bimini in Bailey Town, while Alice Town, also on North Bimini, is the main tourist center where most of the hotels, restaurants, and fishing operations can be found. There’s an airport on South Bimini, although most visitors arrive on the islands at North Bimini Harbour via sea plane from Miami.
