The Exumas
From a point just 35 miles southeast of New Providence, the Exumas – a chain of 365 islands and cays – lie strung out across some 95 miles of ocean almost to Long Island. The total population is about 3,550.
It’s an area of great natural beauty with tiny cays, secluded inlets, isolated beaches, and great fishing, an ideal vacation spot for boaters, fishermen, and beachcombers.
Most of the islands’ inhabitants live on Great Exuma or Little Exuma, both of which are in the southern part of the island chain. George Town is the population center of Great Exuma, while Williams Town is the main town on Little Exuma. The Exumas are easily reached by air from Miami or Nassau on daily flights to Exuma’s International Airport at Moss Town, just a few miles north of George Town.
