If you visit only one beach on Martinique, it should be Grand Anse des Salines on the southern cape past Sainte-Anne. Often called the “Pearl of the Antilles,” it has a 1½-mile-long cove of palm-lined white sand. Of course, this is one of the most popular beaches on the island, so expect plenty of company on weekends and holidays.
However, weekdays are surprisingly quiet, especially during the off-season. Showers, restrooms, picnic tables and food vendors are located all along the beach and there’s a good seafood restaurant (Les Délices de la Mer) at the tip of Pointe des Salines.
