Back down Rue de la Liberté toward the waterfront, you’ll see Le Musée d’Archéologie, which holds relics of the Arawak and Carib Indians. These tribes lived on Martinique and other Caribbean islands before Columbus discovered them. The museum itself is discouraging and signs are in French, but some of the displays are engrossing. The entrance fee is just 15FF/2.5EU/$2, so take 15 or 20 minutes to see pre-Columbian pottery, maps and artifacts of daily life. The archeological museum is open 9am-5pm, Mondays- Fridays, and 9am-noon on Saturdays.
