Plantation Grand Café explains all the enigmas of bananas. Tickets are a bit pricey – 60FF 10EU $9 for a tour and 290FF 48EU $41 if you also want lunch at Parc de Valombreuse and a tasting visit at the nearby rum shop. However, bananas and rum are what Guadeloupe is about, so consider splurging on this one. The plantation tour is conducted on a tractor-drawn cart, and you see about 30 varieties of bananas from around the world, visit a lovely Créole garden, and see the owner’s house furnished as it was in the 1940s. Plantation Grand Café is open November to April on weekdays from 9am-5pm and Saturday from 9amnoon. The rest of the year, hours are from 9am-noon on weekdays.
