Nautical museum, housing an extensive collection of maritime artifacts, including hundreds of photographs, prints and paintings of ships, old steering wheels, compasses, bells, lanterns, navigation instruments, ship name-boards, naval history books, old shipping records—including a number of volumes of the old Lloyd’s Register—and, most impressive of all, the original Fresnel Light from the Point Sur Lighthouse, dating from 1880. Also on display are scale models of Sebastian Vizcaino’s ship, San Diego, Commodore Sloat’s flagship, Savannah, and a restored captain’s cabin. The History Center, which is part of the same complex, houses exhibits depicting the history of the sardine and whaling industries in Monterey, shipwrecks, and the history and culture of the Ohlone Indians. The museum and center are open daily 10am-5pm. Admission fee: $5.00 adults, $3.00 youth (13-18 years), $2.00 children (2-12 years), $4.00 seniors and disabled persons.
