In the foothills of the Venetian pre-Alps, the immense 12th-century Castelbrando is one of Italy’s largest and has played host to several dig-nitaries and luminaries in recent years. Featuring a hotel and congress center, a spa facility with a Roman bath, several restaurants, bars, museums, theaters, shops and art galleries, the castle offers visitors a wide selection of activities and services for a medieval holiday. The entertaining medieval dinner takes place the last Friday of each month with traditional dishes and entertainment, and is a great activity for families (reserve in advance). Guided visits to the castle can be arranged and the Museo delle Arme is also interesting for children. If the weather is nice and you’d like to explore the castle’s surroundings, several recreation paths are accessible from the top level of the castle. If you’re interested in sampling a glass of locally produced Prosecco, stop into the enoteca La Cantina di Ottone (be sure to take a look at the ancient Roman oven from the late Imperial period). The primary way to access the castle is by funicular, located in the parking lot below (Euro 1).
