The Baroque Parish Church (1771-1774), located on Fõ utca in the small town, replaced a Gothic church that was built using the stones of Roman ruins, but which fell to the Turks. Based upon the remains of charred bones that were found inside the Gothic church’s remains, it appears that the villagers fled inside. The Turks then burned the village and the church, with the villagers inside.
The altar and pulpit of this church today are historical monuments. Its fabulous organ, built in 1786, was once a marvel of Central Europe, but was destroyed by the Red Army in 1944. They installed an artillery lookout in the tower and used the organ for firewood. Peasant houses face the southwest end of Fõ utca. Look for No. 83. It is open to the public.
