The Museum of Applied Arts (Ipármüvészeti Múzeum), is a masterpiece from the architect Ödön Lechner, who designed this building for the Millenial Celebrations. Built in 1896, its goal was to establish a separate Hungarian style of architecture. The blend of styles adds almost a Turkish aspect to the rich curvature in the porticos and balconies.
But these are hidden by the bright colors that surround the pink marble steps and Byzantine light yellow pillars. Stained glass ceilings grace a pure white almost ethereal hall. The museum is for carpets, jewelry, handcrafts, and ceramics from the faed Hungarian Herend works and other ceramics houses all over the world.
There are fabrics and hand-worked objects from down through the centuries, along with some interesting old-world musical instruments. From here you can walk to the Ferenc Körút metro stop, and take it back to Deak Ter. We are ready to embark on our exploration of Andrássy út. Take the metro back toward Újpest, and get off at Deák tér.
