The Kempinski Hotel Taschenbergpalais opened in 1994 as the best hotel in town. The Kempinski group reconstructed Baroque Taschenberg Palace, originally built by Augustus the Strong for his mistress, the countess of Cosel, and destroyed in World War II. The exterior is pure Baroque and close to the original, while the interior is modern and furnished to the highest standards. Rooms are large and tastefully decorated. The better rooms have a view of the Zwinger. In winter, an ice skating rink operates in the hotel’s courtyard.
