Six marked hiking circuits, ranging in duration from about 1½ hours to seven hours the 25-km/15½-mile Roudaïre circuit, start from different points in the village. Information, as well as a schedule of accompanied walks, is available from the tourist office.
The nearby La Marchande recreation area, featuring nature trails and an arboretum with more than 300 tree species, is suitable for gentle rambles. Leave the village on the D14 heading toward Collobrières. After about four km/2½ miles, look for a sign for the André Lugia Recreation Area, La Marchande, shaded in a grove of Aleppo pines.
Along the trails birdwatchers may spot European rollers, red backed shrikes, golden orioles, ortolans and wood larks, which are beautifully named alouette lulu in French. Among the Mauresque flora, look for Serapias, a rare Mediterranean orchid.
The white flowers of Gratiole officinale, also known as “poor man’s herb” and only found in the Maures and the Estérel, peek out along stream banks during July and August.
