The Gilded Iguana (Playa Guiones, Nosara,4 rooms, restaurant, $$). Very pleasant, large rooms in a hotel building set back a little from the well-known Gilded Iguana restaurant. Owned by North Americans. Upstairs bedrooms – reached by climbing a metal spiral staircase – are breezy and white, with refrigerators and extra sleeping areas. The popular restaurant is open 10 to 10, more or less, and is closed Mondays except during football season, when they serve dinner and drinks for Monday night football. Every Saturday at 10 am there is an open but cutthroat bridge game where you can hone your skills with razor-sharp wits. This is also the headquarters of Iguana Expeditions (call the hotel and ask for Joe), which runs great sea kayak trips into the reserve.
