Hotel Villa Taype (Playa Guiones, Nosara,22 rooms, two pools, restaurant, tennis, air or fan, breakfast included). Owned and managed by a local Costa Rican family, the Taype is a large horseshoe-shaped hotel with some bungalows. Accommodations sit in lovely gardens about 100 meters/329 feet from a beach that offers a good surf break. There’s a long, open public area with a TV and bar, and large kidney-shaped pool with a swim-up bar. The rooms are relatively unadorned, but modern and very clean, with hardwood ceilings and white tile floors. Garden bungalows (numbered in the upper teens to early 20s) have small patios under thatched roofs. See a few rooms before you decide. The bulletin board announces many local activities and tours. Budget travelers should ask about a smaller room without air for about half-price. Anarchists can pay in cash and avoid the tax.
