As the water taxi approaches Biras Creek, your eyes will be drawn to the circular stone building on a hilltop at center stage. Looking like a Crusader castle, this peak-roofed building houses the resort’s open-sided restaurant. Food here is considered exceptional, as is the restaurant’s wine list. Asmall resort, Biras Creek sits on a strip of land between two hills on a peninsula. It is touched by three distinct bodies of water: North Sound Lagoon, the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. These allow a broad watersports program to flourish. The hotel’s 60 guests are housed in 31 suites.
Twenty oceanside suites stand along Bercher’s Bay on the Atlantic, while eight other suites are in a landscaped garden. They are identical in size and layout, each having an air-conditioned bedroom, good-size comfortably furnished sitting area with wicker and rattan chairs and tables, along with a private verandah. The refrigerator is stocked with welcome beverages and there’s a tea- and coffeemaker. A really nice touch is the outdoor shower enclosed by tall walls and colorful plants to protect your privacy. Each suite has two bicycles, which are the most common mode of transport at Biras Creek. The two Grand Suites face the sea. They also have one bedroom and even more amenities, such as freestanding bathtubs and open-air toilets, bidets and showers.
The Premier Suite has two bedrooms and two baths. Each bedroom has an open-air verandah and there is a closed one between them. The hotel’s 140 acres are criss-crossed by marked nature trails, stonewalled gardens and a mangrove pond with unusual birds and wildlife. The freshwater swimming pool sits at beachside. Lunch is served here several days a week. The private beach, named Deep Bay, can be reached on foot or by bicycle. The active watersports program is based here too. Guests have the use of a wide variety of non-motorized water toys. Among them are Hobie Cats, Sunfish and Laser sailboats, windsurf boards and sea kayaks. The staff gives lessons as well.
Guided snorkeling trips are led several days a week and a fleet of Boston Whalers is available should guests want to explore North Sound. The spa has two suites and offers body and facial treatments. Massages are offered in the spa, guest rooms and terraces and in the massage hut on the beach. Outdoor yoga classes are given. There are two lighted tennis courts. After dinner, guests gather in the library/den, where there is a snooker table and large-screen TV. Biras Creek has a marina and yachts also anchor offshore and come for dinner at the Fat Virgin Café nearby. There is a boutique here as well.
