Sebastian’s On the Beach is like a pair of old shoes – not great looking but very comfortable and inviting. On Little Apple Bay, at the foot of the mountain range that forms the island’s spine, it has a winning beachfront location. One of the oldest hotels here, the original building was opened over 30 years ago. It now houses simply furnished rooms with twin beds or basic suites with two queen-sized beds, mini-refrigerators and ceiling fans. A few of these rooms are air-conditioned. In sharp contrast to the accommodations above, Sebastian’s has added a villa that contains luxurious suites. Two bedrooms plus a sleeping sofa in the living room make them comfortable for eight. All the units are air-conditioned, have TVs and VCRs and there is a film library. Bathrooms are large, with marble floors and showers. Each unit has a balcony facing the bay. Two of the suites have teak whirlpool baths in the oversized bathrooms. Sebastian’s restaurant is set on the beach. It features West Indian food and is best known for its exotic rum drinks. Music plays at dinner several nights a week. No pool here, but the beach shack has surfboards, windsurf boards, sunfish and beach tennis gear. Villa guests can use all the equipment without charge. By the way, body surfers from the US and other Caribbean isles flock to Little Apple Bay during the winter when the waves are right for serious bodysurfing. Not fancy, but fun.
