An unusual stop, Fort Recovery sits on a secluded beach on Drake’s Channel and the view from its vil-las includes St. John and the passing sailboats. Seaside villas are the sole accommodations at this hideaway. Built around an original 17th-century Dutch fort, they are accented with oleander, hibiscus and bougainvillea. Villas have one to four bedrooms. Management calls the four-bedroom villa, a “house.” The Penthouse villa has beamed cathedral ceilings and designer furnishings. All the villas are spacious and tastefully furnished. They have fully equipped kitchens, living rooms with comfortable sofas, TV sets and air conditioners. All have private balconies or patios. Maid service and continental breakfast are included. There is a pool, but most guests head to the private beach, which is equipped with a water trampoline. Special features include gourmet dinners, prepared in the restaurant and served course-by-course in your villa or on the candlelit deck. Yoga classes and massages are also available. The staff is very friendly and guests are drawn from all parts of the US.
