At Hösök tere, in front of the tall spire with Árpád at the top, look west down Andrássy út. Walk down about two blocks till you come to the Russian Cultural Center. This is the bufé on the top floor of the Russian Cultural Center. It’s open from noon to 6 pm Mon-Fri. The menu is in Hungarian and Russian, but the food is authentic Russian. Each floor of the Cultural Center features a different event from Russian history, as you climb the stairs framed in rich black marble to the top floor. The room at the top has dramatic Russian murals with onionspired churches, and kossaks galloping across the steppes. Six tables sit beside a large counter. Russian delicacies are the fare. Try the pelmeny (spicy meat-filled pasta), or pirozhki (small pies filled with mushrooms, meat, or cheese). The menu on the wall verifies its authenticity. Gin and tonic and Russian vodka are offered along with the coffee, cappucino, and tea.
