Grenada Golf & Country Club is in Golflands. From Grand Anse Road, take the road by Roydon’s Guest House. Carry your clubs up the hill and you’ll need a rest before you start playing. It’s best to take your own vehicle or hire a taxi. We did once persuade a dollar bus to make a detour to the top of the hill for an additional EC$5. Caddies jostle for your bag. Their fee is EC$20 for nine holes. Carrying even your own Sunday bag is an effort in the heat and a caddy can show you the line on the greens. A fellow hacker described the putting surfaces here as more like a hairbrush than a pool table. The nine holes can be fun. Aside from the par-three holes, only one hole is of any great length. Several holes cross each other, which adds to the adventure factor. It is easy to make a bad score and blame it on the course. Clubs are available for rent from the clubhouse for EC$40. Boys outside will sell you balls that they will probably find and sell again after your round. The clubhouse has a large verandah where, over a cold drink from the bar-cum-pro shop, you can witness other hackers perplexed by the turf. Late in the afternoon, members arrive for their daily round and, with the benefit of local knowledge, they effortlessly carve out a good score. To further humiliate yourself, try taking on your caddy for a game. Some of these guys can hit the ball a country mile. The cost for nine holes is EC$60.
