Hotel Fonyód is for lower budgets, but adequate in amenities. It has accommodations for € 44 (11,000 HUF) in low season and € 65 (16,250 HUF) in high season for a double. Located on the only real hill in southern Lake Balaton, it is close to mountain trails, and you are five minutes from the lake shore and the harbor. The train and bus station are only a few minutes away. The terrace served by the hotel cafeteria looks out over Balaton for a wonderful ambience. The inside restaurant tables are small and not in the best atmosphere, but the cuisine is Hungarian to be sure, and the kitchen offers room service.
In-room TV (small TVs and Hungarian stations), in-room phones, a fitness room, sauna, small indoor pool, masseuse, a bar and closed parking, are all managed by a 24-hour front desk. There are park-like grounds, plus a converted high school gymnasium complete with varnished hardwood, benches, and an outdoor soccer field. Away from the beach crowd, Hotel Fonyód is for the hiking crowd and those who do not need every amenity.
