The historic Kiraly Thermal Baths are housed in a unique structure with crescent-topped Turkish domes and a neo-classical exterior where tiny windows stud the dome walls, allowing streams of light to penetrate into the rising steam from the mineral water of the main pool. The entrance to the baths is in the green extension that was built in 1727, embellished with round windows and a stone balcony. This is where the Turkish Pashas bathed and relaxed. This unique facility was started by Arsian, the Pasha of Buda in 1565, and completed by Pasha Sokoli Mustapha, his successor. The Király Medicinal Bath has never had its own source of thermal springs. The Turks built it here, within the outer walls of defense of the old Buda, and then connected underground piping to the Lukács baths, because they wanted to have their all precious baths in times of siege. Following the recapture of Buda, the König family came to possess the baths in 1796, and they rebuilt them blending the old and new in the form we see today.
After WWII it was restored. The interior and exterior front entrance are exactly like the original, with bright amber lights and roof skylights that send streams of light onto the steaming water. Today, aside from the pools, you can avail yourself of pedicures, hairdresser, massage, and sauna, as well as the mini-buffet. 1½ hours costs 4,100 HUF. The baths are open for men and women on different days.
