La Plage Caravelle is possibly the most famous beach on Grande-Terre for two reasons: Club Med is located here, and swimming and sunning au naturel is au courant. Besides, the place is gorgeous. Finding it and actually getting onto it, however, can be a bother, since Club Med won’t allow non-guests to access the public beach through the resort. You’ll have to park a short distance away and walk to the beach, which is no big deal and worth the effort. West of Sainte-Anne, coming from Gosier, pass the obscure sign indicating the entrance to Club Med and go about 100 feet to the next right turn across from the Esso station. You’ll be on a narrow, bumpy road that eventually comes to a fenced parking area. From here, walk down a path lined with vendor stalls to the beach. Go through the turnstile on the right and continue along the beach past a watersports shack until you find a suitable shady spot to call your own. The island visible in the distance is Marie-Galante.
