Wonder what Seven Mile Beach might have looked like before all the condos and hotels? Then maybe it’s time for a day-trip over to Rum Point, a beautiful stretch of beach that’s a fun alternative to Seven Mile Beach. Rum Point is across the North Sound from the bustling West Bay-Seven Mile Beach area.
It is dotted with casuarina trees, chalky sand, aquamarine waters, and a club with just about every watersport. Recently over $5 million in improvements were made to this getaway spot, which now sports a full-service dinner restaurant, casual lunch eatery and bar, decks and walkways, plenty of comfy hammocks and picnic tables, a gift shop, and more.
You can get to Rum Point by car (about an hour’s drive from George Town) or on the Rum Pointer ferry, which departs from the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman. This 120-passenger ferry travels to Rum Point in about 30 minutes. If you’re at Rum Point at dusk, don’t miss the fish feeding off the docks.
