The club only accommodates 30 guests, who are housed in seven cottages set on a ridge and scattered through the cleared grounds. There is a special beachfront cottage that has its own pool and guests have the use of a golf cart to reach the main house. The grounds here are exceptional, for the island is both a nature reserve and wildlife sanctuary. Over 50 species of birds have been identified and several endangered birds are cared for here. Rooms are large and comfortable but not lavish. They reflect their Quaker roots with homemade bedspreads, cane and wicker furniture and lots of native stone. Each has a private terrace offering sensational views of the Sir Francis Drake Channel. Rates include three meals daily, afternoon tea and cocktails and wines at lunch and dinner. There is no marina or public restaurant so the mix of guests is very important. Meals can be eaten at large communal tables or at smaller intimate ones. Dinners are served by candlelight. The food is prepared in West Indian fashion and menus often depend on the catch of the day. There are seven beaches on Guana Island, two of which are accessible only by water. You can snorkel, windsurf or sail to them. There is one tennis court, a croquet field and lots of interesting hikes through the nature reserve. The Guana Island Club takes reservations for individual guests, but it is also possible to rent the entire island and many corporations do so. The resort is closed in September and October to allow for scientific research. Guana Island Club has reluctantly started to accept credit cards. Master Card and Visa only. The dress code at dinner is casual chic.
