Governor’s Harbour
Governor’s Harbour is typical of the tropical towns you’ll find dotted around the Out Islands. It’s fairly remote, but has a charm all its own: a tiny church loaded with history, shops where you can buy local souvenirs and crafts, boats bobbing at anchor in the bay and, here and there, restaurants where you can sample real Bahamian food. It’s not as upscale as other resort areas at Harbour Island and Spanish Wells, but it is interesting and enjoyable. Said to be the earliest settlement on the island, Governor’s Harbour offers several places to stay, including a Club Med, and there’s even a bank. If you really want a getaway vacation, Governor’s Harbour might be just the place.
Continue south along the road from Governor’s Harbour through Palmetto Point, Savannah Sound, past Windermere Island and on through Tarpum Bay. You’ll then reach Rock Sound, the largest settlement on the island.
